What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small, screw-shaped posts that are designed to replace the missing root structure of teeth. They’re made from biocompatible materials like titanium and surgically placed below the gumline and within the jawbone, allowing them to fuse with the bone to provide it with stimulation and blood flow to keep it from eroding over time. After osseointegration (the fusion of the implants with the bone) has occurred, our team can attach a free-standing crown, bridge, or denture to the dental implants to restore your smile.
The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

- Consultation: To start your journey to get dental implants in Westbury, you’ll need to schedule a consultation with our team. At this visit, we’ll capture diagnostic images of your mouth and conduct a thorough examination of your teeth and gums while learning about your medical and oral health history. If you’re a good candidate for the procedure, our team will walk you through what your unique treatment plan will look like and schedule the following steps.
- Dental Implant Surgery: Because we have a periodontist and oral surgeon that we bring into the office, we’re able to surgically place your dental implants ourselves. This means that you won’t have to worry about working with a separate team or being referred out for the surgical portion of your treatment.
- Abutment Placement: Following your surgery, your dental implants will naturally start the osseointegration process, which occurs over the following three to six months and involves the fusion of your implants with the bone. After this is complete, our team will secure small metal abutments to the top of your implants that will anchor your restorations.
- Restoration Placement: We’ll call you back in for your last visit with us to attach your new teeth to your abutments and complete your smile!
